Grand Theft Auto IV

I got my first first-hand glimpse of Grand Theft Auto IV, and was surprised that they made the central character a Serb. I’m not quite educated enough to know what this might mean, but there is some commentary here.

This game consistently raises questions about sexism, misogyny, and desensitization to violence, but Danny, my sister’s roommate, spends a lot of time just driving around and crashing into things. I argue that this self-directed “violence” complicates the anti-social interpretation of the game that is typically proffered, though I can’t go much deeper than that at this point.

Review

I am so incredibly stressed out — by the semester, by moving out, and by preparing for Japan. I really hope that I will be able to do good work.
