Participant Lunch

I had lunch with one of my old participants at this Thai place. There was so much spice in the air that it made my eyes water and I coughed now and then.

I told him what I was looking for in a partner (someone like me), and he acknowledged that that will be hard to find.

It was interesting to see him get quiet and observe our surroundings. I think he would make a good anthropologist.

After I left my eyes got watery thinking about how our lives were and would be intertwined for the time to come.

Harajuku Girls

I made a pilgrimage to Harajuku to see all the wonderful outfits. Though, there didn’t seem to be that many people dressed up, so I decided to take pictures of all the people that were there to take pictures.

Fajitas at Chris’s

For dinner I went to Chris’s place to have fajitas with him and Josh. They were pretty great.

We all played Mario Party on the Nintendo DS, but it was hard for me to understand the mini-games that we played against each other, since they were all explained in Japanese.

Gyoza in Harajuku

After Josh and I woke up, late in the day, we went to this place in Harajuku known for having great gyoza.

Geikaiwa

After eating with Josh I went over to OCCUR’s office to have dinner with the eikaiwa students. It was strange to see so many familiar faces after three years. One person said, “You changed your style,” and it was interesting to think about how I, too, was a historical object.

Dinner was great. We went to a Vietnamese restaurant, and everything was served family style, with many different small dishes. We had some pho at one point.

I was told that OCCUR had told the restaurant that they were a gay group, and when they asked if it would be okay for them to eat there, the restaurant said it was fine.

I also found dinner to be somewhat pricey, at 2000-en (about $20).
